Why we endorsed phil weiser for governor

We met with Phil Weiser’s team, and he invited us to sit down with him personally. He came in open-minded and genuinely curious about how we could work together to help animals. We talked through a lot of different ideas.

We discussed updating state grant programs to reward farmers who use less water and grow food for people rather than factory farms, creating loan pathways for farmers who want to exit industrial contracts and transition to higher-welfare systems, and directing state agencies to prioritize welfare-certified and plant-based foods when buying food for public institutions.

We talked about helping smaller farmers afford the certifications that open doors to better markets, and about making sure that communities living next to factory farms finally get the same environmental protections that apply to every other major polluter.

Phil took all of it seriously enough to connect us with his policy director to develop these ideas into real proposals. What stands out about him is that he doesn’t just listen, he collaborates. His instinct is always to figure out what needs to get done and then bring the right people in to do it. As long as we’re showing up and doing the work alongside him, he’s been welcoming and genuinely supportive of making progress for animals.
